Trieste is a border town and a port placed right between the Karst Plateau and the Adriatic sea. Italian and international history struck the city several times, and that is why Trieste is now so diverse and unique – a shrine of mixed cultures and traditions.
This combination of cultures and traditions is reflected also in local cooking. The typical Triestine cooking includes Slavic, Austro-Hungarian and country recipes. Besides the several historical places offering the typical Triestine dishes, many people prefer the osmizas – rustic eating places where farmers offer their homemade wine, cheeses and cured meats.
In late October/early November, the ‘Sapori del Carso – Okusi Krasa’ event usually takes place – a food and wine event that includes meetings, tasting sessions and menus, and is aimed at preserving the traditional tastes and at making the most of typical Triestine products.
Hotel Italia will be pleased to have you and provide you with all the information you need to enjoy Trieste and Sapori del Carso (Karst Tastes).
